Ben Mhor Hotel Highland Grantown on Spey Inverness shire In the 1800’s 3 separate cottages/stores stood on the site of this hotel. One being a butchers shop was destined to become the first segment of the hotel The Countess of Seafield. “The Right Honorable Nina Caroline Ogilvy Grant Studley-Herbert” wishing to serve the temperance society in the town. Altered the building and opened “Grants Temperance Hotel”. The only temperance hotel in the Town offered Boarding by the day or week. South Africa called her Ladyship and in 1923 the hotel was let on a 9 year and a further 19 year lease to Thomas Ross for an annual rent of 1.200.00 Scots pounds. The Ross family owned both properties to the left of the hotel one being a cycle shop the other a garage. These two properties were to play a large part in the hotel as it stands today |
